Flutterwave Names Former Access Holdings CFO Morounke Olufemi as New Global CFO

Flutterwave, Africa’s  leading payments company, has today announced a planned leadership transition within  its executive team. Morounke Olufemi, the current CFO covering Europe, the Middle  East, and Africa (EMEA), is stepping into the global CFO role after working closely  alongside Mitesh Popat, who has stepped down as global CFO to co-found a new  venture. This transition represents strategic continuity, organizational maturity, and an  unwavering commitment to Flutterwave’s continued sustainable growth.

Morounke brings over 24 years of diverse multinational, finance, strategy, and banking  experience to drive Flutterwave’s continued journey towards sustainable growth.  Before joining Flutterwave, Morounke served as Group Chief Financial Officer at Access  Holdings Plc, one of Africa’s largest financial services corporations. Her tenure at  Access Holdings was marked by landmark strategic achievements, including raising  $300 million in Additional Tier 1 capital in 2023, completing a major rights issuance  program for bank recapitalization in 2024 to meet CBN requirements, and leading  complex M&A transactions that created the second-largest Pension Fund Administrator  in the Nigerian pensions industry.

Her appointment comes as Flutterwave strengthens its disciplined financial foundation  built over recent years, including late-stage funding rounds and strategic investments  like the acquisition of open-banking firm Mono. Mitesh’s decision to co-found a media  company reflects Flutterwave’s entrepreneurial DNA, adding to a growing network of ex-Wavers who have launched their own ventures across cross-border payments, technology, and consulting.

Flutterwave Founder and CEO Olugbenga “GB” Agboola commented, “As Flutterwave  enters the next phase of its sustainable growth, I am excited to announce Morounke as  our new Global CFO. Over the past year, she has effectively led Flutterwave’s EMEA  financial operations and has a proven track record, particularly from her recent  experience at one of Africa’s largest financial institutions. Morounke has demonstrated  that she is the financial leader we need at this moment.

I take pride in building an environment where exceptional talent and leadership can  thrive because I believe that great companies nurture future founders. This is why this  smooth transition between two world-class Finance leaders brings me great joy. We are  grateful to Mitesh for his leadership over the last two years and fully support his next  chapter. We move forward in a position of absolute strength,” Agboola added.

Morounke’s extensive background and experience in banking, corporate finance, and  complex M&A will be critical as Flutterwave continues scaling its operations and  expanding its financial services. Since joining Flutterwave in June 2025 as CFO  covering more than 30 countries across EMEA, she has been an integral part of the  executive leadership team, working hand-in-hand with Mitesh to execute the  company’s financial strategy.

Welcoming the announcement, Flutterwave’s new Global Chief Financial Officer,  Morounke Olufemi, commented, “I am excited to step into the global CFO role. Our  financial trajectory remains firmly on course. We will continue executing our strategy  with a focus on capital discipline, margin growth, and sustainable profitability, while  giving global finance leaders total control over their working capital as well as access  to multi-currency liquidity and stablecoin settlement. I look forward to working with our  global teams to drive long-term value for all our stakeholders.”

The transition underscores Flutterwave’s commitment to internal talent development  and succession planning. As the company evolves into a deeper financial operating  system connecting Africa to the global economy with both fiat and digital assets, all  strategic priorities, capital allocation models, and long-term financial goals remain  unchanged. Flutterwave remains committed to the highest standards of financial  governance and is ready for its next phase of sustainable growth.
